Wow What A Weekend!! First of all, let me say that God is so FAITHFUL!!! Secondly, I have the most amazing man in the world!! And last, it feels so good to accomplish something you work so hard for, for many, many months.
David and I headed up to Nashville on Friday and made it just in time to receive our packets....along with the other 32,000 people! We ate a quick "pasta" dinner with the Burchfields and headed for bed. (If I never eat pasta again, it will be too soon!) We were up at 5am to prepare for the race and we walked to the starting line from our hotel. We didn't begin until @ 7:40am due to the many corrals, but that just gave us plenty of times to head to the port-a-potties! (And YUK, may I add) Anywho.....we began running at a good pace and the first few miles went by pretty quickly. The weather was great and the hills were not too bad. The energy was so strong and there were soooo many people cheering us on from the sidelines and a few country bands along the way also. About mile 7, everthing started changing. I have this muscle that gives me trouble and I just couldn't shake it. I told DAvid to leaved me and go ahead...I was totally holding him up! He would not budge and was determined to stick with me until the end, encouraging me the whole time! At mile 8, we passed a church and their choir was out singing praise songs....what a total God send! (since I didn't have my Nanno with me that plays nothing but praise songs.) It inspired me and I kept going! At mile 11, we hit a pretty LONG hill, that I thought would never end and at this point my legs were so heavy and the muscle was not letting up. We got to the top of the hill and guess who God put in my path.....none other than my precious friend Jeanine ( if you haven't read her blog yet, you need to go to it!) I just started crying when I saw her and I knew God had placed her there in that specific spot and I needed that at that perfect moment! David and I finished strong and he grabbed my hand at the end and we crossed the finish line together! YEAHHHHH!!! I can not even begin to explain the feeling! My first thoughts were "Wow, God had already marked out the spots along the way where I would need encouragement and placed people there. And Wow, is my man GREAT!?!?! He probably could have finished in under 2 hours, but that precious man never left me!
Anyway, I was proud of Christy Burchfield who finished and never quit~even with a bummed leg! She is one tough cookie. And Toby ran like the Kenyans!
We spent the night with the Joyners last night and had an awesome time! Those children are sooooo precious! What a blessing it is to come together after 2 YEARS and catch right back up where we left off! It was like distance had never separated us!
So the big question now is.....when is the next one? Yes, they are quite addictive! (I never thought I would say that) We are thinking of the Memphis Marathon in December and definately Nashville again next year! Probably a few 5k's along the way. I'm hoping many of you will get the RUNNING BUG and join me.
